Kathy Smith, 45, was raised in Wood River, Illinois and is a graduate of East Alton-Wood River Community High School. Her parents, Margaret and Bill Seaton, live in East Alton. Kathy’s mother was a local school teacher and her father retired as a Senior Master Sergeant from the United States Air Force after 30 years of service. Kathy has been married to her husband Scott Smith, originally of Roxana, Illinois, for 24 years. Scott and Kathy live in Alton, Illinois with their daughters, Abigail and Annabelle.
Kathy earned a Business Degree from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. While working full time as a computer programmer at Boeing Aerospace, Kathy was named a Teammate of Distinction, and earned a Master’s Degree from Washington University School of Engineering and a law degree from Saint Louis University. For the past 15 years, she has worked representing small businesses and families, helping with estate planning and personal needs. She has successfully argued before the Supreme Court of Illinois.
Kathy was elected to the Madison County Board representing rural Alton in 2010. She was appointed to several committees including the Judiciary, Planning and Development, and Real Estate Tax Committees.
Kathy volunteers as a mediator to the County’s Foreclosure Mediation Program to help homeowners avoid foreclosure. She serves on the Madison County Storm Water Commission and is a former board member of the Fosterburg Fire Protection District. She currently volunteers as a Director of the River Bend Growth Association and as Vice President of the Woodland Hills Homeowners Association. She was honored by the YWCA of Alton as a Woman of Distinction and serves her church, the First Christian Church in Wood River, as a Trustee.
